This class is an introduction to the study of comics and the methods of art and storytelling in comics. The goal is to develop work that reflects personal interests as well as an understanding of basic techniques. The class is designed to take children through the process of creating their own comic book or illustrated narrative. It will be divided into three areas: materials, techniques, and themes. Participants will be exposed to a variety of artistic styles from the 1900s to the present day. Basic drawing, layout and production techniques will be covered. Stories and characters will be developed from notes, sketches, and class discussion. While exploring these areas, students will discover their own style and voice. All materials provided.
